Updating our Google Account inactivity policy

Every day Google works hard to keep you and your private information safe and secure by preventing unauthorized access to your Google Account with our built-in security protections. And keeping you safe means having strong privacy practices across our products that minimize how long we store your personal files and any data associated with them. We want to protect your private information and prevent any unauthorized access to your account even if you're no longer using our services.

Therefore, we are updating the inactivity period for a Google Account to two years across all our products and services. This change starts rolling out today and will apply to any Google Account that's been inactive, meaning it has not been signed into or used within a two-year period. An inactive account and any content in it will be eligible for deletion from December 1, 2023.

What this means for you:

  • These changes do not impact you unless you have been inactive in your Google Account for two years or have not used your account to sign in to any Google service for over two years.
  • While the changes go into effect today, the earliest we would enforce any account deletion would be December 2023.
  • If your account is considered inactive, we will send several reminder emails to both you and your recovery emails (if any have been provided) before we take any action or delete any account content. These reminder emails will go out at least 8 months before any action is taken on your account.
  • After a Google Account is deleted, the Gmail address for the deleted account cannot be used again when creating a new Google Account.

How to keep your account active?

The simplest way to keep a Google Account active is to sign in to the account at least once every two years. If you have signed in to your Google Account recently in the past two years, your account is considered active and will not be deleted.

Other ways to keep your account active include:

  • Reading or sending an email
  • Using Google Drive
  • Watching a YouTube video
  • Sharing a photo
  • Downloading an app
  • Using Google Search
  • Using Sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service

There are some exceptions to this policy. Examples include: a Google Account with YouTube channels, videos or comments; an account that has a gift card with a monetary balance; or an account that has a published application, for example, one that hosts an app on the Google Play store. Other exceptions to this policy are available here.

Google also offers tools to help manage your Google Account and provide options to back up your data, including the ability to download your data using Google Takeout, and allowing you to plan for what happens to your data if you're inactive for a specific period of time with the Inactive Account Manager.

Our priority is to make it as easy as possible for you to keep your account active, if you want to, and we'll ensure you have adequate notice before any account is impacted by this change. So before an account is deleted, Google will send email notifications to the Google Account and its recovery email (if one has been provided). You should verify that your recovery email is up to date.

Learn more about our updated Terms of Service

indonesiatvguide@gmail.com

On January 5, 2022, we're making some changes to our Terms of Service. These changes won't affect the way you use Google services, but they'll make it easier for you to understand what to expect from Google — and what we expect from you — as you use our services.

You can review the new terms here. At a glance, here's what this update means for you:

  • More clarity on what you can expect from Google and what we expect from you: We're providing more examples to describe the mutually respectful conduct that we expect from all our users.
  • Improved readability: While our terms remain a legal document, we've done our best to make them easier to understand, including reorganizing some topics so that they're easier to find.

If you use Family Link to manage a Google Account for someone else, please take some time to talk to them about these changes.

Thank you for using Google!

Updates to YouTube’s Terms of Service

On January 5, 2022, we're updating our Terms of Service ("Terms") to help clarify and make it easier to understand what to expect as you use the service. These changes won't affect the way you use YouTube. You can review a summary of the changes and the updated Terms here.

At a glance, this update covers:

  • More clarity on what to expect: We're providing more transparency about how we develop, improve, and update our service, including more detail about the reasons we make changes and updates, and the advanced notice we provide to you.
  • General updates for improved readability: While our Terms remain a legal document, we've done our best to make them easier to understand. This includes reorganizing some sections (such as Account Suspension and Termination) and rewording others (such as Changing this Agreement).
  • Inclusion of the Community Guidelines strikes process: Your use of YouTube has always been subject to the Community Guidelines and its strikes process, but we're now explicitly including the Community Guidelines strikes information in the Terms to increase transparency. There are no changes to how Community Guidelines strikes operate, or when a channel or content might receive a strike.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the updated Terms. Note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, or manage your child's use of YouTube through Family Link, take a moment to talk to them about these changes.

Thank you for being part of our global community!

Changes to YouTube’s Terms of Service

You're receiving this email because we're updating the YouTube Terms of Service ("Terms") to clarify our terms and provide transparency to our users. The Terms were similarly updated in the United States in November 2020. These changes shouldn't significantly alter your access or use of the YouTube service.

A summary of the changes:

  • Facial recognition restrictions: The Terms of Service already state that you cannot collect any information that might identify a person without their permission. While this has always included facial recognition information, the new Terms make that explicitly clear.
  • YouTube's right to monetize: YouTube has the right to monetize all content on the platform and ads may appear on videos from channels not in the YouTube Partner Program.
  • Royalty payments and tax withholding: For creators entitled to revenue payments, such payments will be treated as royalties from a U.S. tax perspective and Google will withhold taxes where required by law.

Please make sure you read the updates to the Terms carefully. The new Terms will take effect on June 1, 2021 for users outside the U.S. By continuing to use YouTube after this date, you are agreeing to the new Terms. Please note, if you allow your child to use YouTube Kids, then you are agreeing to the new Terms on behalf of your child as well.

If you would like more information, visit our Help Center.

[Reminder] Convert your classic Google Sites to new Google Sites before Sept. 1, 2021

Google logo
Take action to avoid disruption to your Google Sites.
Transition your remaining classic Google Sites before September 1, 2021.

Dear jadwaltv,

In August 2020, we sent you a message that you own one or more classic Google Sites. To ensure others can continue to see your websites, you must convert them to the new Google Sites experience before September 2021.

What do I need to know?

In 2016, we launched an updated Google Sites designed to help you create websites without programming skills, optimize across mobile and desktop, and co-build with real-time collaboration. In 2017, we announced that we are replacing the previous Sites experience, referred to as classic Sites, with our new Google Sites product. In August 2020, we shared more details about the transition timeline.

What do I need to do?

Start your migration today. If you want your websites to continue to be viewable by others, you must convert and publish them to the new Google Sites experience before September 1, 2021.

You can use the Classic Sites Manager to help you transition your websites as follows:

  • Convert your websites to the new experience if you want them to continue to be available to visitors.
  • Download your websites if you want to store archived versions of your websites.
  • Delete websites that you no longer need.

If you take no action, starting September 1, your websites will automatically be converted as follows:

  • Downloaded as an archive and saved to your Google Drive.
  • Replaced with a draft in the new Google Sites experience for you to review and publish.

For more details about this process, refer to the Sites Help Center.

Learn more about Google Sites

We've listened to your feedback, and your top requests are now included in the Google Sites experience.

  • Section layouts and pre-built templates let you create websites with fewer clicks and less site creation knowledge.
  • Version history allows you to see your edit history, revert and restore previous versions, and review the history of who made changes.
  • Customized text styles and new tile types let you be more expressive with website content, including a table of contents, image carousels, collapsible text, and more.
  • Custom URLs and publishing to an audience let you share your website content.

See what else is new in Google Sites.

How can I get help?

For additional resources on what you need to know and how to manage your transition, visit the Sites Help Center.

Thanks for choosing Google Sites.
